Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture

The Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture is an international school which gives education and pursues research in the fields of design, motion picture, new media, audiovisual communication, art education and arts. Originally founded as the School of Arts and Crafts in 1871, it has evolved into a dynamic university of its areas of competence.
 
The Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture has been a leader in art and design education for over 138 years. It is an international postgraduate institution with students from over 50 countries. It offers doctorate, master and bachelor degrees in a wide range of disciplines - fine art, design, new media, art education, visual culture, motion picture and production design.

The Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture is the largest university of design in the Nordic countries and one of the most highly respected institutes in its field in the whole world. There are nearly 2000 students, 16% of which come from abroad, and 200 teachers at the Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture. Furthermore, 1700 students participate in extension studies annually and 800 students in the studies at the open university.

Nearly 3000 persons apply to the Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture annually, and an average of 9% are accepted as students. A B.A. degree (Arts and Design) takes three years and a M.A. degree (Arts and Design) takes five years. It is also possible to defend a doctorial dissertation: so far more than twenty doctors have taken their degrees.
